Edinburgh’s Epic Unicorn Hunt

Date: 28th Aug 2016 Author: Scout Websites

During the summer holidays, 17 intrepid explorers from The Senior Section, descended upon Edinburgh City Centre to discover unicorns hidden across the city in Edinburgh’s Epic Unicorn Hunt.

The day began at the Girlguiding Edinburgh Headquarters on Melville Street where each participant was gifted a unicorn branded goodie bag, filled with maps, information and lots of unicorn treats to get them through the day. Armed with their instructions and the hashtag #edinburghunicornhunt, four separate groups hunted high and low in museums, on doorways, and up and down the Royal Mile to find as many of the 20 hidden unicorns as they could, whilst promoting their journeys on Twitter and Instagram.

The whole team came together at lunchtime in the Meadows where they were met by the leadership team, a Girlguiding marquee and two more unicorns hiding in the trees – they were pinatas! Once lunch was over and the unicorn pinatas were well and truly emptied the group was challenged to find a unicorn in their purse. Can you find one in yours?

After the second session of unicorn hunting, the day came to a close back at the Edinburgh HQ, where groups and individuals were given out prizes for challenges such as finding the best unicorn merchandise. Who would have thought you could buy a unicorn shower cap! 60 mini unicorn-topped cupcakes later the explorers departed, on a mission to discover even more unicorns around the city.

Fiona Bruce, a member of The Senior Section, helped to organise the event as part of her Queens Guide Award. She commented “It was great fun finding out where the unicorns were across Edinburgh and coming up with the challenges throughout the day in the planning stages. This was my first time planning an event like this and although there were some time issues we managed to pull together a great day with a fantastic unicorn-themed goodiebag for all the participants.”

A huge thank you goes to Lothian Buses, Cuckoos Bakery, Lickety Split and Tunnocks for their contributions towards the hunt and goodiebag – THANK YOU!
