Volunteers’ Week 2026: Charlotte
Charlotte – Young Leader
I have been a young leader at my local brownie unit for over 2.5 years. I have also just completed my training to become a peer educator, which I hope to continue for as long as possible.
I have always enjoyed being able to help in my community. Volunteering proved to be a fun challenge and, once I began, I felt it was exactly what I wanted to be doing and I have loved doing it ever since. Some of my other friends had volunteered at local units and told me about their experiences and how I could sign up. I also remember the young leaders I had when I was in Brownies and how they had been helpful at organising activities and games and how they helped the unit which is the type of person I always try to be.

Through Guiding I have been able to experience so many amazing things. Although it is difficult to choose a standout, I loved events, such as the Glasgow scavenger hunt in March or going to the Gang Show because it’s amazing seeing so many girls and women together in one place for the same reasons.
Volunteering with Girlguiding is a great way to challenge yourself in a fun and rewarding way while making friends in your local area and connecting with girls and women around the world. I especially love Girlguiding Edinburgh because it is filled with wonderful leaders and coordinators who have allowed me, and many others, to experience all that Girlguiding can offer.
