First Response

Who can sign up for a first aid session?

– Any adult volunteer who has permission from their unit leader.

– Anyone who has a current first aid qualification that expires within the next six months.

What does the training involve?

There are three elements to the training that everyone must complete:

1. First response e-learning: this can be found on the learning platform, it’s called First Response E-Learning.

2. Theory element: this can be completed as part of the full day training or as 2×2-hour Zoom sessions*.

3. Practical element: Can be completed as part of the full day training or attend a two-hour practical session.

*Please note the theory must be completed before attending the practical session if splitting the sessions

How much does the training cost?

The charge for volunteers in Edinburgh County is £15, this should be charged as a unit expense. For those attending outwith Edinburgh County the charge is £45.
Once the attendee has completed their training an invoice will be sent to the unit leader. The invoice will be from ‘City of Edinburgh Guides Association’ with the title ‘Statement from City of
Edinburgh Guides Association’.

I have completed an external qualification what should I do?

If you have completed an external qualification and you believe it covers the Girlguiding requirements, you need to submit your evidence to Girlguiding Scotland to be verified and added to
GO. Send your certificate, copy of course syllabus and a completed copy of the external first aid information form to firstaidverification@girlguiding-scot.org.uk.
