Girlguiding Edinburgh celebrates local ‘hero’
Girlguiding Edinburgh is celebrating after one of its young members, Eleanor Pitt of the 156th Edinburgh Guides, became the latest recipient of the ‘Hero Award‘ earlier this month.
Eleanor was nominated for the award by her leader following her massive fundraising effort for Bethany Christian Trust, which saw more than 200 young members from across Edinburgh take part in the Big Bethany Sleepout to raise money to help people affected by homelessness. Eleanor raised £655 for the charity.

Eleanor Pitt received a Girlguiding Hero Award.
Ellen Tasker, a leader with the 156th Edinburgh Guides says: “Eleanor is always cheerful and engaged in our unit’s activities, but, in particular, her effort in fundraising for Bethany was nothing less than astounding. It was a great team of Guides that did the Sleepout, and Eleanor was so positive in the face of the truly miserable conditions, supporting her friends and doing it all with a lovely smile. A Hero Award is well deserved!”
Lindsey Devin, County Commissioner for Girlguiding Edinburgh says: “l am so proud of Eleanor and her fantastic fundraising efforts! It was a such pleasure to be able to present her with a Girlguiding Hero Award.
“I also took part in the Bethany Sleepout and have a huge respect for all our young members who bedded down in the pouring rain to raise money, raising a total of almost £23,000.”
