Five youngsters from the 106A Edinburgh Brownies unit received their Gold Award earlier this month, which is the highest award that can be achieved in Brownies.

The group have participated in numerous activities to achieve their awards, including adventures across Scotland, a sleepover at Dynamic Earth, developed their DIY skills, taken part in the Edinburgh Gang Show, volunteered at Saughton Gardens and learned sign language, first aid skills, and firelighting.

Leader of the 106A Edinburgh Brownies, Helen, says: “I am so proud of all the girls in our unit, but especially those who work so hard to get their Gold”.

One of the Brownies who achieved the Gold award, Sophie who will soon be moving up to Guides, says: “It has been such a magical few years with this unit. I hope the next group of Brownies love it as much as I did!”

After the presentation, all the Gold award winners came together for a barbecue and for everyone’s favourite campfire treat – toasted marshmallows.

If you would like to volunteer and help girls to develop their confidence and skills through Guiding, register your interest.

Girls take what they do in guiding with them as they grow up. Everything from working in a team, to taking the lead, to speaking out on issues they care about. It helps them develop the skills and confidence to become the young women they want to be. ’
