This Volunteer Week, we’re shining a light on some of our amazing volunteers and why they do what they do!

What roles do you have with Girlguiding Edinburgh?

I am the leader for two Brownie units in Edinburgh 202nd and 202nd B Brownies and I am the assistant guider with 202nd A Rainbows. I also help Rebecca, our lead volunteer for marketing and communications, with the social media.

How long have you been volunteering with Girlguiding?

I have been a volunteer for nearly 15 years and was previously a Rainbow and a Brownie myself.

What is a favourite memory you have from volunteering with Girlguiding Edinburgh?

That’s a hard one as I have enjoyed everything, but one of my favourite things is to take girls on residentials, both in the UK and internationally. They learn so much from being away from home and having to be independent and resilient, all while having lots of fun.

Why do you volunteer?

I volunteer for Girlguiding because I love inspiring the next generation and giving them experiences and memories that they will remember forever, as well as teaching them skills for the future. Watching the girls’ confidence, resilience and independence grow and challenging themselves to do things they may never have, nor will experience, is very rewarding. I hope I inspire them to decide to volunteer when they are older.

Why should others get involved in volunteering with Girlguiding Edinburgh?

I 100% recommend volunteering with Girlguiding Edinburgh. I wouldn’t be where I am today without Girlguiding Edinburgh. I personally have developed in confidence and resilience, and have made many friends along the way that have shared the passion of supporting and inspiring others. If you have some time please do think about volunteering, without volunteers we wouldn’t be able to do what we do!
