To celebrate Volunteers’ Week 2026 (1st – 7th June) we’re spotlighting volunteers in different roles across the city. If you’d like to give a shoutout to one of Girlguiding Edinburgh’s volunteers, you can post your personal thanks on Girlguiding Scotland’s Thank You Wall.
Zoe – Young Leader
I am a volunteer at my local browines (230th unit) and have been for roughly 3 years now. I volunteer because I enjoy getting to watch the girls grow and develop skills they learn in Brownies as well as teaching the girls about our world and running fun games with them.
I signed up to volunteer with Girlguiding Edinburgh because I am interested in becoming a teacher when I am older. Going to Brownies helps me gain experience to prepare me for this.
One of my favourite memories in Guiding so far was at a unit meeting – we ran an experiment with the girls where they put bicarbonate of soda into baking powder to make a fizz. It was very fun to see everyone so suprised and their excitement at the experiment.

I think others should get involved with volunteering through Girlguiding Edinburgh because it helps you build experience and leadership skills that can be useful for later life, for example applying for jobs and uni. And, of course, have fun helping to run games and activities.
